Location Update - #1

This is our route traveled as of 7/29.

Vacation Riddle #1

What likes to go up a hill and down a hill, and never blinks an eye at the size of the hill??

Recent Events @ Yellowstone

We we awoke this morning at the Campground here at Pikes Peak, there was a complimentary newspaper on the steps of the RV.

It wasn't so much that we had received a paper, but what was on the front page that was a little disturbing.

We will be there soon.

Day 6 - 7/29

Went to Pikes Peak today, and WOW!  We decided to drive the Wrangler up instead of taking the train, in order to allow us to go at our own pace.  Turned out to be a great day
Everyone made it to the Summit, where it was a brisk 41 degrees.

Stopping at about 11,000 feet to get our Eskimo clothing on!

Oh by the way, I got this updated for today, because as soon as we got back to the RV for lunch and a short break it began to pour, and it is still raining.  So right now it is Laundry, Email, Blogging and Play Station 3.

Lesson Learned

Although it has only been several days since we left, I have learned the most important thing about traveling thousands of miles across the country.

DON'T USE THE TOILET PAPER IN THE REST STOP BATHROOMS - IT CHAFES!  Take along your own Angle Soft Tissue.

Day 5 – 7/28

Left early this morning heading across the remainder of Kansas and into Colorado.  This was a relatively short trip of about 6 hours of traveling time.

We left the Wal-Mart, which by the way was Josh's favorite Camping stop so far.  He loved the ease of parking, no setup and right to bed.

Check-in at the Pikes Peak Campground wasn't until 3 PM, so we made an out of the way stop at the Royal Gorge Bridge and did a little sightseeing.  Josh's take on this adventure was, "Dad, this is the Busch Gardens of Colorado".  Afterwards it was off to Pikes Peak Campground where we met the Laundry Warden.  Laundry done by 10PM or it gets locked in for the night.  I got stuff in my bedroom drying as I write.  Also, Pikes Peak is the first place that we had WiFi Access - so I ended up putting everything on here to cover everything since we left home.  I am sure I will have to edit some of these posts later.

Day 4 -7/27

Got up this morning and headed out for the Welcome Center in Colorado as we decided to bypass the Wal-Mart Camping stop.

Well I knew it was going to happen, just had to. About 1 hour west of St. Louis – BAM!!

Left rear inside dual, decided to go the way of a birthday balloon with a group of 5 year olds. $471 dollars later we were back on the road. Now with the delay, the Wal-Mart became the best option.

Day 2 – 7/25

Today was a travel day to St. Louis.

Day 3 – 7/26

St. Louis Arch - Notice Doris and Phares (Mom and Dad) at the right leg of the Arch.

A little closer look.

Went to see the ST. Louis Arch today. Got up at 0600 and was there when they opened the doors at 0800. Almost had to get naked to get thru the security checkpoint, seems to be worse than having to fly internationally. Anyhow no crowds and it turned out to be a nice day.

Spent several hours with Joshua in the pool – Just let me say ouch!

Getting up tomorrow around 0600 to travel thru Kansas. Plan is to stop at the welcome center in Colorado for the night. Driving time will be about 11 hours.

Day 1 – 7/24

Pulled into Camp Carlson, found a spot, and got settled.  0315 not bad.  Good nite!!

Morning already.  Well since we left early we had a whole day to take it easy.  Did some sightseeing around the area and rested.
First night around the Direct TV campfire

Day 0 – 7/23

Got an earlier start today than originally planned. So instead of stopping at the Wal-Mart that was 4 hours out, we decided to go ahead to Camp Carlson in Fort Knox Kentucky. Well lets just say it took a little longer than planned. Not because of the gas and food breaks, but because it is a chore hauling 30,000 pounds up a 7% grade. Basically you go nowhere fast at 35 MPH.
