Day 14 - 8/6

Went for a day trip to the Grand Teton's.  On the way did a little sightseeing in Yellowstone at several waterfalls and other various points of interest.

And of course as we are almost there, it rains.  But by the time we reached our final destination it had cleared up somewhat and it turned out to be a great time.  Then as we were leaving to head back to the RV it was a race against darkness and the evening storm.

Tomorrow the plan it to make a run down to Old Faithful, and then stop at the 4 basins on the way back to the RV and then rest.  Because the next run is going to be a long one.  We will leave Yellowstone, go down by the Great Salt Lake, across the Salt Flats and down the mountain range (Past Area 51) to Las Vegas to spend the night.

Joshua Story (Snake-Turtle Rock)

We had stopped alongside the road to check out a waterfall when Joshua found this Turtle in the grass.  No wait... it is a snake, as he clearly saw its eyes.  Then after some debate, numerous pictures and throwing some stuff at it -- It was a rock.

Day 13 -8/5

First Day in Yellowstone.  Decided to take the North Loop first.  This place is huge.
Saw some boiling water, water falls, stinky pools of sulfur water and some animals.  No bears or rattle snakes as one member of our party keeps asking about.

So, Josh and I go walking by this steam vent.  thus it is spewing mostly steam but has some water entrained.  Well it spewed on us.  Smelt just like snorkel juice (submarine term for the exhaust and cooling water that rains down from the sail when the diesel is running).  It got on us, on the camera, and Joshua got some on his lips and in his mouth.  As we ran through it to the other side, Josh asks; "Dad, do you think it steams like that all night?"  To which I replied - "No, they turn it off when it gets dark."  "Really?" asks Josh.  Just then two guys on the path bust out laughing.

Tomorrow I think it will be off to the Grand Tetons for a little mountain sightseeing.  We will see who all will be making the trip.  I think Dad plans to rest for tomorrow and Mom may join him.

Location Update #2

Day 12 - 8/4

It was up at 0800 and a quick packup and we were off.  Little Big Horn was only a 30 minute drive down the highway.
Then after Little Big Horn we headed over to the local IGA for some fresh provisions.
Next it was 6.5 hours to Yellowstone.  It took it toll on some of our passengers.

Arrived at Yellowstone ontime at 1930, setup and had crab cakes for dinner.  Now we are watching RV.  Well 3 of us are, Dad is asleep on the floor and Josh is getting some quality time with his PS-3.

Day 11 - 8/3

Today was a travel day as we head off towards Yellowstone.  Plan was to head to Hardin, MT and stay in a truck stop for the night.  Instead we found a KOA at the same exit and ecided to spend the night in order to get services for the evening (ie. take a shower).  Tomorrow it will be off to Yellowstone with at quick stop at Little Big Horn.

South Dakota

We went to Mount Rushmore today (8/2/10) and that was magnificient. I thought it was going to be bigger than what it was. Me and my husband walked along the trail that lead to the base of the Presidents Monument before it became all steps. We turned around and went back to where we began. We stopped for an ice cream and visited the gift shop. We saw the Crazy Horse Memorial and drove through the Custer State Park. Our son has worked very hard planning this trip and has taken us to so many interesting places along the way.

Day 9 - 8/1

BADLANDS

Went to bed last night with a wind blowing thru the campground that shook the RV all night long, then it was coupled with a rain storm towards morning.  So we slept in and got into the Jeep around 1000 and headed off to the Badlands National Park and finially made it back to the RV around 2000

Wonderful Day!  Nice Sights!  More BISON!

Stopped in a town in SD called WALL and found what we
are calling the South of the Border Stop for the west.
Anyway couldn't resist the Jack-a-lope.

Day 8 - 7/31

Left on schedule (actually 2 minutes early) for the KOA at Mt. Rushmore.  Was due to arrive at 1321 and then needed to go to Rapid City to pickup Sharen who was scheduled to arrive at 1300.  Needless to say she would have to wait a short time.  However on the way to the KOA we again ran into difficulities that put us behind schedule.  There was the gas stops, the 7% grades, and a new one "THE BISON".

They had no intention of crossing the road quickly, just as I had no intention of trying to rush them.

Day 7 - 7/30

Today we got up early and left for Pepper Pod Campground to meet a friends of Moms for lunch and then off to the Rocky Mountain National Park.

Lunch was good and Mom got to visit with her friend (hopefully Mom will post something on the visit later).

After lunch went to the National Park and had a marvelous time. (it is late will finish this later)
